Drifting Sands Beachfront Retreat is located in Hokitika on the untamed West Coast of New Zealand. Nestled on the beach and flanked by the grand Southern Alps, here you can experience both in such close proximity.
Offering an unrivalled friendly welcome and 'home away from home' experience we are just a five minute walk from the town centre. We share all our favourite spots and tips for a bespoke tailored time while visiting our cool little town.
We pride ourselves on our quality 1350TC linens, hotel grade mattresses, goosedown pillows and down duvets ensuring a sumptuous and well rested sleep. Dine at one of our recommended restaurants or prepare a banquet for your family in our fully equipped kitchen.
Relax by the fire in our cosy lounge or chill out in the private beach garden with a good book listening to the roar of the crashing waves just metres away. The sunset on our front lawn will take your breath away as it lights up the sky and sets slowly into the Tasman Sea.
After dark stroll to the glow worm dell, light a bonfire in our own firepit or sink into our stargazing hot tub under the milky way. You will understand why one night is never enough.

100% of your booking will be charged 7 days prior to your arrival to the credit card provided with a 2.95% surcharge incurred on all credit card payments. Please contact us at the time of booking if you would like to pay by Direct Bank Transfer or Cash.
Cancellations up to 7 days prior to arrival will carry no penalty. The exception being all non-refundable reservations which require 100% pre-payment and remain non-refundable at all times.
Failure to arrive at Drifting Sands without prior cancellation will incur one night’s accommodation charge on the credit card provided at the time of booking. Any subsequent nights of the reservation will be cancelled.
Cancellation Policy

Cancellation within 7 days of your arrival: 50% of your reservation will be charged.
No show or cancellation within 72hours: 100% of your reservation will be charged.
Check In
Our reception is open from 3:00pm
Check Out
Our check out is 10:00am. Please request if you need a later check out.
We are happy to offer luggage and bike storage outside check in hours.
Dining
Please be mindful that restaurant closing hours in NZ and especially small towns are earlier rather than later and the optimum time for a dinner reservation is between 6:30pm - 8:30pm. We recommend stopping for dinner before reaching Hokitika if your arrival is likely to be later than 8pm.
