Property Information
Robinson Cottage is a recently refurbished 1837 building in the centre of historic Oatlands, the heart of Tasmania’s Heritage Highway. The building has been tastefully furnished with a blend of modern and antique furniture and art and offers several styles of accommodation to cater for the discerning traveller. We have an on-site wine, cheese and spirit bar (open Wed-Sun) to complete your experience (see www.imbibers.com.au).
Barwick Cottage is a cosy and comfortable c1845 brick cottage which was built as a cottage for a bootmaker who had a shop next door. Traditional paint finishes have been used in this building to give a mellow and aged patina which compliments its modern fitout. Featuring a double bed, quality linen, ultra-modern bathroom with rainhead shower, TV, electric heating, electric blankets, fridge and microwave this cottage provides a comfortable and quiet hideaway. Note that this is a small room and may not be suitable for people with mobility difficulties. Maximum occupancy is 2 people and children/infants cannot be accommodated in this room. This room is not suitable for self-catering.
The Studio is a large and sunny room in a wing of the house which was built as a saddlery shop in the 1860s. A modern fitout compliments the original polished Tasmanian Oak floor and an ultra-modern bathroom ensures the highest level of comfort. Featuring a king sized bed, quality linen, sofa-bed (ideal for kids), TV, electric heating, electric blankets, fridge/freezer, microwave and coffee machine this room provides a comfortable and bright space as the perfect base for your local food and wine experience.
Robinson Cottage (the main house) is a two-bedroom cottage built in 1837 by local entrepreneur John Robinson and is the oldest timber building in the town. Recently refurbished, with two large living areas and a fully equipped kitchen, Robinson Cottage is perfect for groups and families (sleeps up to 4 plus one infant - portacot provided - there is also a double sofa bed). Featuring two queen rooms, quality linen, TV, electric heating, electric blankets, fridge, microwave and coffee machine this cottage provides a spacious and comfortable base for groups and families.
Oatlands has the largest collection of Georgian sandstone buildings in any village in the southern hemisphere and is streets buzz with many beautiful eateries, craft shops, art galleries and antique shops. The icon of the village is the recently restored Callington Windmill – the only wind driven Lincolnshire-style flour mill outside of England (please note that the mill is currently closed to the public - being redeveloped as part of a major whisky distillery). The town is central to everything – 1 hour to Hobart, 1.5 hours to Launceston, 45 mins to MONA, 1 hour to the east coast, 45 minutes to the highland fishing lakes and on the edge of the famed Coal River Valley food and wine region, Oatlands provides the perfect base for your Tasmanian escape. Please note that there are a limited number of evening eateries in Oatlands - we recommend you phone ahead to your preferred option to check opening hours. The local supermarket is open to 7pm daily and offer a range of pre-prepared meals also. Our 2-bedroom house has a full kitchen for self catering - note that kitchen facilities are limited in Barwick Cottage and The Studio rooms. Please note that no pets are allowed on the property (assistance dogs are allowed).
Note that all room rates include 2 people. Additional people may be added to the booking (excluding Barwick Cottage) at an additional per-person rate.
